What we've been up to so far in Year 5!

Vikings - Raiders or Settlers?

How should we remember the Vikings?

Picture1

What we are up to: This half term, Year 5 are embarking on an exciting journey into the world of the Valiant Vikings - Raiders or Settlers? We’ll be uncovering the truth about who the Vikings really were, exploring fascinating historical sources, and deciding how they should be remembered. In English, Beowulf and Viking non-fiction will inspire imaginative stories and detailed reports, while in Maths we’ll be building confidence with multiplication, division and fractions. Science will focus on changing materials, and in Art we’ll get creative with Picasso-inspired sculptures. PE will develop teamwork and skills through Capture the Flag and Rugby, and in RE we’ll be exploring the story of Christmas. Music will get us in the festive spirit as we learn Christmas carols, and in French we’ll continue to grow our vocabulary. We’re also thrilled to be taking part in weekly Forest School sessions, giving children the chance to explore the outdoors and use natural materials like leaves and twigs to make beautiful Christmas crafts.

WOW Moments in Year 5!

What we are up to:  We are travelling back to the Mayan Civilisation to learn about their influence on our world today as well as comparing them to other historic periods and creating some Mayan inspired artwork. We will also be inspired by the Real Life Mysteries information guides to inspire writing our own guides about a topic of our choice. Meanwhile, in Science, we will be learning about life cycles of plants and animals. We are also very excited to be learning the clarinet with the help of expert teachers from the West Sussex Music Service.

What else are we up to: If you fancy a quick round up of what else we have been up to during your child’s time so far in Year 5, please do take a look our WOW moments on our learning page on the school’s website.
