The Smashing Anglo-Saxons How did the Anglo-Saxons effect British history?

What we are up to: We have begun the term by exploring the changes in Britain from just after the Romans left Britain and when the Anglo-Saxons arrived. Why did they come? How did they live? What did they do differently to other groups of people and what did they do the same? What key events occurred in this period which make them vital to our understanding of British culture? We ask all of these questions and really try to get into what it would have been like for everyday people at this time. Our guided reading texts underpin all of this – ‘How to be an Anglo-Saxon in 13 easy steps’ and ‘Anglo-Saxon Boy’. So the children are learning about this era in lots of detail and across the curriculum.

What we are up to:  We are travelling back to the Mayan Civilisation to learn about their influence on our world today as well as comparing them to other historic periods and creating some Mayan inspired artwork. We will also be inspired by the Real Life Mysteries information guides to inspire writing our own guides about a topic of our choice. Meanwhile, in Science, we will be learning about life cycles of plants and animals. We are also very excited to be learning the clarinet with the help of expert teachers from the West Sussex Music Service.
