Glebe Primary School Governor Vacancies (United Learning)
Could you be what we are looking for?
Would you like to make a meaningful difference to children’s education?
Do you have skills or experience you can offer to support a successful and ambitious school?
Glebe Primary School, part of United Learning, is seeking new Governors to join our Local Governing Body (LGB) from September 2026.
About the Role
Governors at Glebe are part of a wider United Learning governance community, working on behalf of the United Learning Trust Board to support the success and accountability of the school.
The Local Governing Body plays a strategic, non-operational role, acting as a “critical friend” to school leadership — offering both support and constructive challenge to ensure the best outcomes for all pupils.
As a Governor, you will:
• Help shape the vision, values and strategic direction of the school
• Monitor progress and hold leaders to account for educational and financial performance
• Ensure the school is providing the best possible experience for every child
• Act as an ambassador for United Learning and the school within the community
Governors do not get involved in the day-to-day running of the school, but instead focus on the bigger picture and long-term success.
Our Current Vacancies
We are looking to appoint new Governors as valued members of our team, as some long-serving Governors come to the end of their term of office.
Our governing body works across key areas including:
• Quality of Education (Teaching & Learning, EYFS)
• Safeguarding, SEND and Pupil Premium
• Wellbeing
• Finance and Resources
• Health & Safety, Site & Sustainability
The Full Governing Body meets at least termly (currently scheduled once per half term), and Governors are expected to:
• Attend Full Governing Body meetings regularly (once per half term)
• Visit the school at least once per term (in addition to meetings) and complete a short visit report
• Prepare for meetings by reading papers in advance and contributing thoughtfully
What We Are Looking For
We recruit Governors based on skills, experience and commitment.
We welcome applications from individuals who are:
• Committed to improving outcomes for children
• Willing to ask questions, analyse information and offer challenge
• Able to work collaboratively and professionally
• Interested in learning and developing in the role
You do not need prior governance experience — United Learning provides a comprehensive induction and training programme, including safeguarding and governance essentials.
We particularly welcome individuals with experience in areas such as:
• Education
• Finance
• HR or organisational leadership
• Safeguarding or health & safety
• Community or public service
Expectations of the Role
This is a voluntary role, but it carries significant responsibility and accountability. All Governors are expected to:
• Commit time to meetings, visits and preparation
• Undertake required training (primarily in September)
• Occasionally attend school events (e.g. parents’ evenings)
• Work in line with the United Learning Code of Conduct
• Act at all times in the best interests of children and the school
