Year 6

Life in Year 6 - top of the school!

There’s probably only one word to describe life in Year 6- busy! Year 6 means the end of primary school and building up to saying ’Goodbye to Glebe’. There’s a lot to get done. We need to choose secondary schools, visit these schools and make sure we are in the best possible place to be secondary school ready. And we can’t forget the end of primary school assessments -SATS- that we need to be ready for in May and show off just how awesome we are.

So, hold onto your hats Year 6. It’s busy. It’s fun. It’s hard work. But we promise it’s worth it.

Thank you for coming along to our "Secondary Ready" Presentation last week.  Please click below to open our the slides and view all the information passed on during the presentation:

What we've been up to so far in Year 6!

Crime & Punishment

Topic: Crime and Punishment

How effective is the UK justice system?

What we are up to: This term, our Year 6 students will engage in an exciting and thought-provoking curriculum designed to challenge their thinking and creativity.

In History and PSHE, we will explore the UK justice system, examining how it operates and evaluating its effectiveness. Through discussions and case studies, students will develop critical thinking skills and a deeper understanding of fairness, rights, and responsibilities in society.

In Science, our focus will be on light. We will investigate how light travels, how shadows are formed, and explore reflection and refraction through practical experiments.

In Art, we will be delving into the world of printing, learning different techniques and applying them creatively. This will tie into an exciting design project, where students will design and create their own prints bringing together their artistic and practical skills.

What else are we up to: If you fancy a quick round up of what else we have been up to during your child’s time so far in Year 6, please do take a look our WOW moments on our learning page on the school’s website. Please follow the link to our Year 6 learning page here:

WOW Moments in Year 6!

Greek Mythology Expert Visit

James Dempster, our Chair of Governors and Ancient Greece expert, came to talk to us about the vast number of Greek gods and goddesses ahead of us writing our own non-chronological reports.

We were amazed by their incredible powers, quirks and amazing myths that tell their stories.

Geography Week in Year 6!

Trip to Shoreham Port

Year 6 visited Shoreham Port as part of our whole school Geography week where we considered its importance in our local area.  The children asked some of the port's employees some questions about their role as well as making observations of the cargo they saw leaving and entering the harbour.

The children then wrote some brilliant pieces in role as a seagull flying over the Port.  Well done Year 6!
