Year 1

Life in Year 1 - the start of Key Stage 1

Year 1 is an exciting year as we move into Key Stage 1. We’re no longer the youngest in the school and show how grown up we are! We work together as a whole class and on our own more than we did in Reception and we’ll make amazing progress in our Reading, Writing and Maths.

As with all learning at Glebe, our aim is to make it ‘irresistible’ and Year 1 will certainly be playful and fun! There are so many exciting opportunities to be had this year.

Some of our Y1 WOW moments!

Some WOW moments from 2025 - 2026: 

 

Year 1 enjoyed making their own toy museum as part of learning ‘Toys Past and Present’ in History. They brought in a favourite toy from home and compared it to toys from the past.  

 

In Design and Technology, Year 1 loved learning about different skills used in cooking. They grated cheese, spread tomato sauce and cut bananas! They then used these skills to make their own pizza.
