INSET stands for In Service Training. All schools in England have five INSET days every year when they are closed to pupils to allow for staff training. They are an important part of staff training and development, ensuring that staff stay up to date with latest developments and so education in our school remains ‘cutting edge’.
EYFS stands for Early Years Foundation Stage.
The foundation stage is our Reception year (age 4-5)
Key Stage 1 is Years 1 and 2 (age 5-7)
Key Stage 2 is Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 (age 7-11)
The National Curriculum outlines what all children should be taught in each Key Stage. To find out more go to https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/national-curriculum
They are Statutory Assessment Tasks. These are national tasks / tests which are used to assess all children at the end of Key Stage 1 (Year 2) and the end of Key Stage 2 (Year 6). The SATs results give a ‘snapshot’ of children’s attainment at Glebe; in other words how they achieved in particular tasks or tests taken on as specific day / week.
SATS are taken towards the end of Year 2 (throughout the month of May) and at the end of Year 6 (a specific SATs week is set nationally every year, usually the second or third week of May).
This is the teachers’ judgement about the progress and attainment of a child. This judgement will be made based on evidence gathered over a period of time and from a range of pieces of work, together with test results. It is usually a more reliable judgement of a child’s attainment than a test result alone.
For more information on how assessment works here at Glebe please visit our Performance Data section of the website.
This is Planning, Preparation and Assessment time; all teachers are entitled to PPA time each week.
Golden Glebie celebration assemblies are an opportunity to recognise and reward individual children’s achievements. Children receive a Golden Glebie cerficate for demonstrating one of our core values – Nurturing, Inspiring or Challenging themselves or others around them.
School reports are issued to all the children at the end of the school year, in July.
We discourage parents from trying to talk to a teacher in the morning as they are busy preparing for the school day. We would advise you to speak to the teacher at the end of the school day after all the children have been dismissed. Please try to avoid Mondays when the staff have meetings directly after school. We can also arrange appointments in the school office for parents to see the class teacher or another member of staff.
Parents/Carers Evenings are held twice a year. The first are in the autumn and the second in the spring.
You can do one of a number of things.
1) Call in to the school office and make an appointment on 01273 592163
2) Email her direct head@glebeprimary.co.uk
3) Write a letter.
Our Headteacher is always happy to meet with you.

Yes. This is for health and safety reasons. Our PE kit consists of a house coloured T-shirt (KS1 and KS2), black shorts or track-suit bottoms and trainers/plimsols. No jewellery or watches can be worn and long hair needs to be tied back.
Lost property is stored within each phase of the school. Please contact your class teacher or team leader for help locating this. All lost property is sorted clearly within labelled boxes. This lost property is also displayed in the playground at the end of each half term, where parents/carers are encouraged to check through for missing items. All remaining lost property is taken to a charity shop at the end of each term.
Please remember to always sew name labels or write your child's name in all their clothing.
Regular attendance at school is essential. Only exceptional circumstances will be authorised. Holidays in term time are no longer able to be authorised. Please ask our school office for a Special Leave of Absence form or click here to download the form.
Our policy states that your child must be clear of sickness or diarrhoea for at least 48 hours before returning to school.
We start school from 8.30am, gates will open at 8.30am. The gates close at 8.40am. If you arrive after this you should report to the school office and your child will be marked in as late.
Our school day finishes at 3.00pm. The school gates will open to parents at 2.45pm.
Our uniform can be purchased from Sussex Uniforms in Hove.
You can buy standard uniform items from most supermarkets and shops. For more information please see our Uniform section of our website.
Unfortunately, we do not have car parking facilities on site for parents/carers. The school is situated around residential roads and becomes very congested at peak times. We ask parents to park and stride to avoid congestion. If you are parking in the local area please do so legally and with due consideration for our neighbours.
Yes, your child can cycle/scooter to school (not within the school grounds though please). A secure cycle shed is provided on site.
No, we normally discourage toys or collectables (e.g. football cards) being brought to school, unless the class teacher has specifically requested that they do so for a class treat. Please always check with the class teacher.
We encourage parents to get involved in various ways from attending trips, reading with individuals, being a member of Glebe’s PTA to becoming a school governor. If you are interested in the governance of the school, please call the school office to make an appointment with the Headteacher.
Safeguarding our children is our number one priority. If you are asked to help or you would like to help you will be asked to complete an induction process.
