Year 6

Life in Year 6 - top of the school!

There’s probably only one word to describe life in Year 6- busy! Year 6 means the end of primary school and building up to saying ’Goodbye to Glebe’. There’s a lot to get done. We need to choose secondary schools, visit these schools and make sure we are in the best possible place to be secondary school ready. And we can’t forget the end of primary school assessments -SATS- that we need to be ready for in May and show off just how awesome we are.

So, hold onto your hats Year 6. It’s busy. It’s fun. It’s hard work. But we promise it’s worth it.

Thank you for coming along to our "Secondary Ready" Presentation last week.  Please click below to open our the slides and view all the information passed on during the presentation:

What we've been up to so far in Year 6!

Topic: Wonder   How can I use my voice to make a positive change?

What we are up to:  In the Autumn term, we will begin the year by immersing ourselves in R J Palacio’s ‘Wonder’.  We will begin our quest to understand the impact that disability, judgement, peer pressure and bullying has by using the text as a jumping off point to develop our own understanding of kindness and empathy.  The creation of a class kindness box will support our reflections on the positive impact that our friends and classmates can have before creating art and literacy pieces to represent our views and feelings.

In addition, we will be learning about animals and humans in science this term. We will learn about the circulation system and how we can keep our bodies and minds healthy and happy by considering the impact that diet, exercise, drugs and alcohol can have on the body.

Our half term will end with an exciting geography week where we develop our map work skills and visit Shoreham Port to learn about the vital resources which enter and leave the UK thorough this port.

WOW Moments in Year 6!

Greek Mythology Expert Visit

James Dempster, our Chair of Governors and Ancient Greece expert, came to talk to us about the vast number of Greek gods and goddesses ahead of us writing our own non-chronological reports.

We were amazed by their incredible powers, quirks and amazing myths that tell their stories.

Geography Week in Year 6!

Trip to Shoreham Port

Year 6 visited Shoreham Port as part of our whole school Geography week where we considered its importance in our local area.  The children asked some of the port's employees some questions about their role as well as making observations of the cargo they saw leaving and entering the harbour.

The children then wrote some brilliant pieces in role as a seagull flying over the Port.  Well done Year 6!
