Year 1 are learning all about the senses

If something is small or far away it is blurry for me. It is tricky to read small writing and so sometimes I try to recognise the shapes of words to help me to work out what it says.

 By Ruby, Year 5 pupil

Year 1 have been learning all about their different senses and experiencing what it’s like when we can’t use them. We’ve been doing lots of blindfolded challenges like tasting and smelling different things and walking through the school. After this we were incredibly lucky and grateful to be visited by Ruby from Year 5 who is partially sighted and she explained to all of the children how she experiences the world around her, what she needs to do to help her to see things more clearly and, really importantly, how she doesn’t let it stop her from being brave and trying as many things as she can. What an amazing Glebie she is! The Year 1 children were a fantastic audience and asked lots of very thoughtful and clever questions.
