INTENT

At Glebe Primary School, we are committed to educating and supporting our children to make thoughtful and positive environmental contributions, so that they understand how to be a part of a sustainable world. We aim to do this through our values-based curriculum, valued experiences and our school ‘Eco Agents’, as well as through links with our local community. We strive to raise the profile and understanding of environmental issues, both locally and globally, in an accessible way by challenging our children to inspire others to be responsible citizens in our ever-changing world.

As an aspiring Eco School, we aim to link activities into our values-based curriculum through different ways. We recognise the benefits of Outdoor Learning at our school, where we can promote the respect of nature through understanding and engagement. We encourage all staff to identify opportunities to take the children’s learning outside of the classroom, across all subject areas and through our valued experiences.

Alongside this, our school engages in a wider approach to teaching our children about environmental matters, such as using our outdoor areas to survey the biodiversity within our school grounds, scheduled times to take part in our newly-established ‘Glee-bees’ Forest School, Gardening Club, whole-school Eco Days and engaging with the wider community for projects, such as Walk To School Week.

 Our 'Eco Agents'

Each class from Years 2-6 have an ‘Eco Agent’ to represent their class and give all children a voice to share ideas with the Eco Subject Leader and Head Teacher. Through half termly meetings, they will have one pupil-led focus area to implement and encourage within their class and the wider school.

We believe that our ‘Eco Agents’ play an integral role in inspiring and challenging the school community to be aware of environmental matters, as well as being proactive in making sustainable choices both inside and outside of the classroom.

Our hope as a school is to nurture true global citizens that have an appreciation for their local area and the wider world. We aim to enable our children’s understanding of the world around them to continually grow, impacting on their confidence to be part of a united force and inspiring others to respect the planet we live on.

Spotlight in ECO: Litter Picking - Autumn 2023

Our Eco Agents have been taking it in turns to litter pick around our school. Each year group has a dedicated lunchtime each week to litter pick and the Eco Agents have been very dedicated to this so far.

“It’s supporting helping the school stay clean. If not, the rubbish could blow away or be eaten by animals, such as seagulls.” Martha M, 6R

Spotlight in ECO: Nature Day - October 2023

We had a whole school Nature Day! The focus was on trees and their importance in our world because each class in our school is named after a tree. The children came in dressed either as a tree or in nature colours, and took part in a variety of activities. These included a tree quiz, learning about the Country Code, listening to a story based on trees and contributing to our school tree. Every child in the school drew around their hand and made a pledge (Globie Promise) on how they could help to look after our school and wider environment. Every child’s hand is now displayed on our school tree in the Old Hall to show how all the children at Glebe want to make our world an even better place.

Spotlight in ECO: Whole School Eco Challenge, Spring 2023

A massive congratulations to Octavia W and Zoe P for winning our Eco Poster Competition in the Spring Term!

The Eco Warriors were very impressed by all the entries and found it hard to narrow it down to just two. The winning posters are now displayed on the Eco Board and all the other fantastic poster entries have beendisplayed around the school. Thank you to all the children who entered the competition!

Spotlight in ECO: Year 3 supporting the local area

This term Year 3 have been helping out in our local area! They have been learning about the importance of Recycling and looking after the environment. They have taken part in a 'beach clean-up' and have gone on a trip to beach to litter pick so that they can help to reduce the amount of litter on our beaches to protect local wildlife.

Glebe offers pupils an array of enrichment activities to provide exciting, stimulating experiences that enhance our curriculum and children's individual learning.
