The INTENT of Computing at Glebe

At Glebe Primary school we recognise and embrace the technology rich world we, our learners and their families find ourselves in. Through a hands on layer based computing curriculum, we aim to offer our children an immersive and meaningful learning to lay the foundation for our children to becoming inspiring creators as well as nurturing consumer of technology.

Through this approach vocabulary is a focus. For children to verbalise their understanding. This is why it is introduced at the start of every unit for children to have the ambition to gain greater knowledge. Units are linked as much as possible to topics or real life situations for them to gain confidence and experiences with the drive to learn more. Our curriculum has been researched and organised in a well-planned way for children to progress the knowledge and understanding throughout their time here and Glebe. For teachers we ensure curriculum coverage across multiple schemes of work and that it is broken down into manageable chunks to support our own skills and subject knowledge to deliver engaging lessons to ensure progression.

Digital Leaders 2023-24

Meet the Glebe 2023-24 Digital Leaders!

These fabulous people don’t just have a shiny badge this year but a lot of technical responsibility in school. They are on call to help with anything technical and to help manage our Class Techies at Glebe. They help with assemblies across the school, assisting teachers with the smooth delivery of various shared experiences and information. Watch this space for our Digital Leaders and something exciting is loading……

Spotlight within Computing - Year 1

Responding to a video for help!

A pizza chef called Dimitri sent Year 1 a video, telling them how he makes healthy pizzas using grass, sticks and leaves. They had to help him to make sure he knew what healthy foods were.

They then set to work, learning about the eat-well plate, different healthy foods, how to use an iPad and how to use various cooking tools.

They planned their own healthy pizza for Dimitri. Then they sprinkled, chopped and folded their very own healthy pizza pockets!

To share their new knowledge of healthy eating and how to make a healthy pizza with Dimitri, they created a video using the iPads.  They explored the camera functions of an iPad: how to hold it, record, zoom, pan across and delete files.

Then we filmed our friends, spreading, chopping, sprinkling and making their healthy pizza pockets!
