Glebe Primary School

Years 4,5 and 6

Reading Workshop

It was interesting to think about how a story is actually made. There's a lot of editing!

By Corin M, Year 4

On the 28th February, ten Year 4, 5 and 6 children took part in a reading workshop where they looked at the process of publishing a fiction book. This included discussing the timeline from an author's initial idea to the writing, editing, typesetting and publishing stages. The children compared their own favourite texts and created a list of requirements to make a 'brilliant book.' After gathering ideas from an interactive workshop by Frank Cottrell-Boyce and Steven Lenton, the children then prepared for our approaching World Book Day. On this special day the group will work alongside our Patron of Reading Vashti Hardy as part of Glebe's 'publishing team'. They will be leading the school in creating a children's picture book of our own which every class will participate in the making of. We look forward to seeing the children work towards accomplishing this exciting task and opportunity!

I'm really excited to work with Vashti Hardy on world book day. There will be a lot to do to make our Glebe picture book but I can't wait!
